MacMillan revives the ancient practice of writing music based on the structure of the Rosary (The most famous example being the Rosary Sonatas of 17th century composer Heinrich Biber). The Mysteries of Light is inspired by the “Luminous Mysteries,” Rosary meditations introduced by John Paul II in 2002.
