French composer, Eugène Cools published his Competition Solo for Cornet and Piano in 1958. The work remains an important audition work, particularly at the Paris Conservatoire. Cools’ Competition Solo addresses advanced features of the Cornet, including semiquaver flourishes, chromaticism, and variations in performance directions, amongst other aspects.
