Among the most frequently played original works for clarinet and piano, the present edition is based on the autograph. Intermediate to early-advanced level. A contemporary of Mendelssohn and Schumann, Gade was strongly influenced by the former composer. This concert work for clarinet displays the best elements of the Romantic period, including a rich lyric, melodic style combined with lush, wamr harmonic backgrounds. The writing displays the clarinet in its warmest tonal range while spiced with moderately challenging technical passages.–The Instrumentalist
